ML Engineer
Help us turn messy real-world divorce data — financial documents, court filings, parenting schedules — into useful signal for the professionals using VennBoard every day.
Locations: Seattle · San Francisco · Los Angeles · New York · Remote (US) · Compensation: $190k – $260k base + equity · Legal-tech experience not required.
What you’ll do
- Design and ship production ML models that summarize hearings, extract action items, redact PII, and surface financial anomalies.
- Build training and evaluation pipelines on top of our matter dataset — labelling tooling, dataset versioning, and evaluation harnesses included.
- Own model latency, accuracy, and cost end-to-end. We measure what ships.
- Collaborate with product, data science, and legal review on what ‘good’ looks like for each task.
What you’ll bring
- Comfort writing production Python and shipping models behind an API.
- Experience with at least one transformer or LLM-finetuning workflow.
- Strong taste in evaluation — you know when to trust a metric and when to look at the actual outputs.
- A bias toward shipping over papers.
Nice to have
- Experience with retrieval-augmented systems or document understanding.
- Have worked on speech-to-text, OCR, or multimodal pipelines.
- Published research, open-source contributions, or kaggle/ML competition history.
How we work
Small team. Honest feedback. Real ownership from day one. We don’t track hours; we track outcomes. We default to async — meetings only when they make us faster, not slower. We ship every week.
